Our Inca-Maca uses only the finest organic Maca roots, traditionally grown in high Andes highlands of Peru and manufactured directly in Peru. Our Inca-Maca shows a gelatinization index of 100%. The index refers to the percentage of starch molecules that have been broken down in order to free the phytochemicals from the starch bond. Gelatinization is an extrusion process that leaves a more concentrated powder by removing the starch in a plant or vegetable. Lepidium Meyenii is the overall botanical name of the Maca group. However, there is a variance between this and our product which is Lepidium Peruvianum Chacon backed by scientific studies. Our Inca-Maca refers to the name given to the plant of the maca group that Dr. Gloria Chacon found was the only one to contain 4 essential alkaloids of the traditional medicinal plant, missing in the common Meyenii plant of lower altitudes. Lepidium Peruvianum Chacon is listed in herbariums (after Dr.Chacon) in the USA, UK and Europe as the botanical name of this plant found to grow only above12,500 feet where the traditional medicinal plant has always been grown. The maca plant does grow below this altitude but it then lacks many of the medicinal benefits and becomes very similar in its uses to any root crop, and is known as Lepidium Meyenii. At present there is a huge surplus of inferior maca on the market in Peru, as large areas were planted at lower altitudes by investors seeking to rides on the maca wave of expansion throughout the world.

Maca from Peru Andes is a hardy perennial plant cultivated high in the Andean Mountain at altitudes between 4000 and 5000 meters above sea level. This is a harsh environment of burning sun shine and fierce winds during the day, and sub-zero temperatures at night. No other food plant exists in the world which will grow at so high an altitude and survive. These rugged conditions and the mineral - rich soil give Maca its elemental power and strength.
Maca was first used by the Incas more than 2000 years ago for energy and endurance and the Inca found maca root so potent that they restricted its use to their Royalty's court. Upon over running the Inca people, conquering Spaniards became aware of this plant's value and collected tribute in Peruvian maca for export to Spain. Inca warriors would consume maca before entering into battle. This would make them extremely strong. But after conquering a city, the Incan soldiers were forbidden from using maca to protect the conquered women from the warrior's powerful sexual impulses! From as far back as 500 years ago, maca's reputation for enhancing strength, libido and fertility was already well established in Peru. |
